FRAUNHOFER is the largest applied research organisation in Europe. The Climate Neutral and Smart Cities in Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy System advises cities in the design of sustainable city districts by calculating cost-optimised energy structure. FRHF is the proposal coordinator and besides project management, FRHR contributes to integrated planning (WP2) and sustainable energy system modelling (WP5). With FRHR’s rich experience in supporting cities and districts in urban energy transformation and in leading large-scale demonstration projects, it will be fully competent to take on the coordinator role.

CESENA has a strong interest in fostering a liveable, attractive, and healthy city environment especially by leveraging: (1) public spaces greening and accessibility and (2) active mobility system. The WeGenerate objectives are fully aligned with the city’s interest. CESENA will play a fundamental role in managing the Cesena Demo. As WP3 Leader, CESENA will engage all relevant stakeholders gravitating around the Railway Station area and Vigne neighbourhood in the regeneration process and facilitate the connection to relevant projects and ongoing activities in the area. CESENA will drive the implementation, especially in responding to the needs of the citizens.

CASCAIS is the WP4 Leader coordinating the Cascais Demo. CASCAIS is manage over 200 public buildings ranging from schools, sport infrastructures, service buildings and other cultural heritage buildings for Cascais Town Hall and in the process successfully led the energy transition with the implementation of renewable energy in these buildings and electrification of road transport. CASCAIS is able to achieve this through successful funding application at national/EU level as well as by working with private investors to leverage new business models for energy communities and energy concessions. CASCAIS will drive the implementation of WeGenerate in the selected social housing neighbourhood, which has a high replication potential to other social housing in the city and beyond.

BUCHAREST District 2 is the WP5 Leader coordinating the Bucharest Demo and for driving the implementation of the intervention. BUCHAREST will offer solutions co-created together with the local community based on their needs. BUCHAREST will facilitate the implementation of energy sharing solutions, energy efficiency as well as the regeneration of public spaces using a highly participatory process with intensive citizen engagement. It will facilitate social cohesion by bringing together different social groups in the neighbourhood and offer them opportunities to make positive changes in their neighbourhood and communities. BUCHAREST will ensure proper staffing during the project period to ensure a smooth running of the project.

TAMPERE has the WP6 Leader tasked to coordinate the activities in the Tampere Demo, the western city centre, communication and co-creation with citizens and other stakeholders. TAMPERE facilitates the creation of XR technologies to improve citizen-centric urban planning, data-driven public decision making and strong urban regeneration processes. TAMPERE’s ‘city-as-a-platform' urban innovation policy and ecosystem-based approach focusing on co-creation between different stakeholders has made the city one of the most fastest growing and innovation-oriented cities in Finland. TAMPERE is a strong consortium partner. Maturity of the city infrastructure enables technical integrations and adaptations as well as offers great opportunity to learn scale solution developed by other partners in the project. 

ICLEI Europe is dedicated to supporting its city members in Europe and beyond through peer exchange, partnerships, capacity building and social innovation to create systemic change for urban sustainability. ICLEI uses this long-standing experience of supporting cities and city networks to lead the replication, knowledge exchange and capacity building processes involving the WeGenerate Demo and Fellow Cities (WP8). It also leads the effort to embed the WeGenerate findings broadly, both horizontally, ensuring outreach with other city ecosystems and communities of practice, and vertically, highlighting the relevance of project results to EU policy processes (T9.4 and T9.5). In addition, ICLEI will leverage its social innovation expertise developed at the side of local governments and their constituencies to lead the WP2 Social Innovation Cluster. 

EIT URBAN MOBILITY is a Knowledge and Innovation Community launched in 2019 to accelerate a mobility paradigm shift to a sustainable urban mobility system and liveable urban spaces. The overarching purposes are the improvement of the quality of life in cities, the mitigation of climate change, the contribution to the competitiveness of our cities and the creation of jobs. EIT Urban Mobility community consist of over 200 partners from leading companies, research and education institutions and cities in Europe. EIT Urban Mobility will take a leading role in the dissemination, transfer and exploitation of project results as well as supporting the Demo Cities and industry partners in developing innovative mobility solutions.

EUPPORTUNITY is an EU affairs consulting company with a deep knowledge of the European institutions, its procedures and with a suitable network of contacts in Brussels. The staff is distributed between Lisbon and Brussels to be present in all relevant fora and define measures to support communicating and disseminating expertise and promote increasing awareness of developments and trends in several domains and sectors. EUPPY is dissemination leader in several EU funded projects. In WeGenerate, it takes up the role of WP9 Leader managing the communication and dissemination as well as supporting transfer and exploitation. 

ParkUnload is a smart parking platform based on Apps and micro-location technology to regulate, control, monitor and analyse restricted and time-limited parking zones in several market segments as well as Park & Ride facilities close to the Public Transportation network. PARKULOAD has successfully developed and deployed several pilots and operational projects across the EU and USA. In addition to this, Parkunload has the exact competence to lead the implementation of the smart parking solution for the Park & Ride facilities close to the Cesena railway station (WP3).

GREENVOLT is a renewable energy company, delivering 100% green power through multiple technologies. It is a market leader in energy transition, with a unique operational and financial capacity as listed in the Lisbon Stock Index. Greenvolt Comunidades was born with the mission of driving the creation of locally produced Energy Communities, benefiting its members through the consumption and production of clean energy at lower costs. GreenVolt will implement provide the hardware and software systems needed to create an energy community in the social housing neighbourhood in the Cascais DEMO in collaboration with the Local Circles, the social housing and school/kindergarten communities. (WP4).

ENGIE as an energy transition main global actor is developing in Romania green projects with PV, heat recovery, green thermal systems etc. The focus is to help clients to decarbonise the buildings and businesses but maintain a competitive price for energy. In WeGenerate Project, ENGIE will use its wide experience in energy transition projects to design and implementation of a smart energy system for sharing, managing and optimising the locally generated renewable energy for the Demo neighbourhood. The successful deployment of such energy sharing systems in the market requires novel business models. ENGIE will find viable business models based on its experiences in other countries. Having a wide range of selling channels in Romania, ENGIE is one of the best partners to scale up the deployment of community energy sharing systems. (WP5)

National Laboratory for Energy and Geology (LNEG) is a state energy laboratory of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Action that develops R&D oriented to the needs of society and businesses. Investing in sustainable research, along with the international best practices, LNEG ensures that its expertise in a wide range of energy topics responses to the challenges of the energy transition. LNEG operates a network of 4 large-scale laboratories can provide access to significant critical infrastructure for energy research. In WeGenerate, LNEG will lead the Solution Cluster on Energy in Built Environment (WP2) and support the implementation of the Cascais Demo (WP4). 

The University of Bologna Department of Architecture (UNIBO-DA) has expertise in the field of architectural and urban planning, building technology and other built environment topics. UNIBO’s participation in WeGenerate is led by the Technology for Architectural Research Unit that has a proven track report in European projects on urban regeneration and energy transition (e.g., H2020 ROCK, EIT Climate-KIC GECO, H2020 GRETA). In WeGenerate, UNIBO will drive the design and implementation of technical and social innovation in the Cesena Demo to foster the transition via an ‘Active City Experiment’. It will also contribute to WP1, WP7 and WP9 based on expertise in circular cities and experience in sustainable urban development at the city and district levels. 

UTCB is part of the European University for the Smart Sustainable Development of Urban Coastal Areas (EU-CONEXUS). The team leading the participation in WeGenerate has strong expertise in the evaluation of low-carbon building, renewable energies and urban environment considering the indoor and outdoor pollutants and impact on occupants’ health and well-being. UTCB will lead together with BUCHAREST the design and implementation of the Bucharest Demo (WP5) and the university is committed to the inventions in buildings, energy system as well as the campus open spaces as proposed by the project. UTCB can bring in critical infrastructure such as demo-site building, energy efficiency measurements: IR camera; BlowerDoor; indoor/outdoor environmental quality measurement equipment; building energy simulation tools; boundary layer wind tunnel 1 (TASL 1) for urban flow measurements. 

VTT leads the Solution Cluster on Sustainable Mobility (WP2) and supports the Demos in mobility activities to create Action Plans and Implementation Roadmaps. VTT is also the main local research partner of the Tampere Demo (WP6), contributing to the design and impact assessment of the activities. VTT’s mobility and transport expertise focuses on a variety of themes: transport system and policy analysis, environmental and socioeconomic impact assessment, analysis of daily mobility and travel behavior, promotion of active modes, foresight (scenarios, roadmaps), transport safety and automation. In addition, VTT contributes to circular economy (T2.1) by providing expertise in circular design, circular systems thinking and circular impact assessment. VTT will also bring in its knowledge of inclusive design for vulnerable groups and work on social innovation (T2.2).  

NOVA is a Top-30 business schools in Europe (FT), the school fosters a cross-disciplinary learning and research environment, where researchers and practitioners work together in 8 multidisciplinary, problem- and practiceoriented Knowledge Centres. Besides scientific investigations, the Knowledge Centres also actively engage the public and private sectors as well as citizens and communities in their work. The NOVA team leading the participation in WeGenerate has expertise in environmental economics. It has a mission to develop solutions to the most pressing environmental challenges confronting our communities, nations and the EU. In WeGenerate, NOVA will contribute to the Cascais Demo (WP4) and lead activities in social innovation and participatory actions in the Demo neighbourhood to ensure a wide engagement of local stakeholders in the regeneration process.

CRES is the National Coordination Centre of Greece and the Greek government consultant in national policy, strategy, and planning on renewable energy and energy-saving technologies. CRES has long- standing leadership in RES and energy efficiency and carries out applied research and works as promoter, organizer, and advisor on all aspects of planning and implementation of renewable energies and energy saving technologies. In WeGenerate, CRES will lead WP7 on Monitoring and Impact Assessment to develop a common assessment framework and standardised data measurement protocol.

IREC - Catalonia Institute for Energy Research has expertise in energy and impact analysis of the built environment and in PED and Urban simulation tools. In WeGenerate, IREC will lead the development of the WeGenerate Impact Model for Sustainable Inclusive Neighbourhood and a cross-Demo evaluation of the results and impacts of the project. Additionally, IREC will use its computational resources, database infrastructure and knowledge to lead the development of Digital Twins for the Demo neighbourhoods in Cascais, Bucharest and Cesena. 

The Czech Technical University in Prague is one of the oldest and largest technical universities in Europe. The CVUT participation in WeGenerate will be led by the Faculty of Transportation Sciences that has expertise in Intelligent Transportation Systems, Smart Cities, Transportation Modelling, Traffic Management, etc. CVUT has a proven track report in EU projects in the mobility area e.g., MAVEN (autonomous vehicles), C-ROADS (ITS) and nuMIDAS (mobility). Besides, CVUT also has rich expertise in digital application particularly city data platform, it led the ‘SmartPrague’ project, in which a variety of digital application and tools were developed. It also developed the Prague Smart City Index 2020 that monitor the city’s progress towards ‘smartness’. In Generate, CVUT will support innovation in the mobility field (WP2) and the development of Digital Twins and City Data Model in the Demos. 

The Architecture Department from Roma Tre University (RM3) has expertise in BIM and GIS design integration, LiDAR survey and drone technologies as well as economic and environmental management in sustainable architecture and urban planning. In WeGenerate, RM3 will lead the development of the WeGenerate Solution Booklet focusing on energy and building perspectives (WP2). It will also support the development of Digital Twins in the Demos (WP3-WP6) and the design and implementation of intervention in Cesena (WP3). Besides, RM3 will offer the access to critical infrastructure including Laboratory of Survey and Digital Techniques (RilTec), Laboratory of Technical Physics and Technology (LFT&T), and Laboratory of Models & Prototypes (3D/BIM-GIS/CityGML).  

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is leading the participation of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in WeGenerate. It will bring in the best SSH practice to the project and support the Demos in finding solutions to strengthen urban governance, citizen-participation, system transformation, behavioural change, social innovation and the co- creation processes. NTNU will contribute to the Solution Cluster on Social Innovation (WP2) as well as the design and implementation of the Tampere Demo (WP6).
