In recent months, the Cesena Local Circle has been working intensively to finalise a comprehensive report outlining the strategic plan and roadmap for implementing key actions under the WeGenerate project.
The WeGenerate Action Plan for the Cesena Demo focuses on enhancing environmental sustainability, accessibility, and public space usability through an integrated urban transformation approach. The initiative targets two urban areas separated by a railway, positioning the site as a pilot for co-created regeneration.
The project in Cesena will implement actions aligned with WeGenerate’s core objectives, which include:
- A comprehensive Integrated and Systemic Approach that underpins the entire project, ensuring a cohesive strategy that aligns sustainable mobility, digital tools, citizen participation, urban greening, and energy efficiency efforts.
- A Multi-Modal Mobility action promoting sustainable transportation by raising awareness of active and intermodal mobility and implementing infrastructure improvements. A new Bike Station service will be co-designed and tested, while a customized Park & Ride system will prioritize spaces for public transport users. Surveys, workshops, and public events will engage the community, fostering behavioural shifts towards more sustainable transport choices.
- A Climate-Adaptive Open Spaces action will experiment with temporary greening interventions using low-impact materials. These efforts will be community-driven, with co-design workshops and hands-on construction activities involving residents, students, and experts. Additionally, a digital platform, the "Digital Coffee Room," will be launched to provide citizens with insights on environmental and energy-related issues, supporting long-term engagement.
- A Renovated Built Environment action will leverage Digital Twin technology to support decision-making in building renovations, focusing on the INA Casa block in the Vigne neighbourhood. A detailed 3D model will be developed to integrate urban, energy, and environmental data, enabling simulations of renovation scenarios. Community engagement activities will ensure the involvement of the residents, and the Digital Twin’s scalability and replication potential will be explored for broader applications.
The success of these initiatives will depend significantly on active community engagement and the strategic use of digital technologies, creating a replicable model for sustainable urban transformation.
