New Park & Ride Pilot Service Launched in Cesena

As part of the WeGenerate Cesena Action Plan, a new Park & Ride service was officially launched last week at Piazzale Aldo Moro, marking a key milestone in the city’s commitment to promoting sustainable and intermodal transport. This pilot scheme is one of the first concrete implementations of the Multi-Modal Mobility action—one of the core components of the WeGenerate project in Cesena.

The new Park & Ride facility offers 15 free parking spaces reserved for train commuters on the southern side of Cesena’s railway station, operating Monday to Friday, from 6:00 am to 6:30 pm. The initiative is intended to alleviate traffic congestion in the nearby Vigne area, which is currently under pressure due to a high volume of commuter traffic. By prioritising access for rail users, the service encourages the shift towards more sustainable commuting habits.

Enabled by Bluetooth technology provided by Parkunload and managed via a dedicated mobile app, the system allows local enforcement officers to monitor vehicles efficiently and respond to any misuse. The pilot will run for seven months, providing valuable data and insight for future development.

This initiative forms part of WeGenerate Cesena’s broader vision to reconnect urban areas divided by railway infrastructure and to regenerate public space through inclusive, community-led solutions. The Multi-Modal Mobility action specifically focuses on encouraging active and intermodal transport through new infrastructure, public engagement activities, and digital tools.
