Cascais Hosts Community Energy Workshop to Help Residents Understand Solar Energy Sharing

On 4 February, the Cascais Municipality, together local partners LNEG and Nova SBE, held an information workshop to present the creation of a local energy community initiative and how residents can take part. The session brought together local participants interested in learning how solar energy produced on public buildings can be shared to benefit households.

During the workshop, municipal representatives presented the concept of a community energy model in simple and accessible terms. Participants were introduced to how locally generated solar power can help reduce electricity costs while supporting a more sustainable and resilient neighbourhood.

A key focus of the session was to clarify the practical aspects of participation. Attendees received a clear, step-by-step overview of the enrolment process, including eligibility criteria, how energy sharing works in practice, and what residents can expect after joining. The organisers also emphasised that attending the workshop did not commit anyone to participation, but was intended to help residents make informed decisions.

The interactive format encouraged questions and discussion, allowing participants to address common concerns about technical requirements, billing arrangements, and potential benefits.

The workshop forms part of the Cascais demo’s broader efforts to promote local renewable energy solutions and increase community involvement in the energy transition. Additional information sessions and outreach activities are expected as the initiative progresses and more residents express interest in participating.
