WeGenerate Bucharest: Pioneering a Greener, Smarter District 2
In recent months, the Bucharest Local Circle has been working intensively to finalise a comprehensive report outlining the strategic plan and roadmap for implementing key actions under the WeGenerate project.
The WeGenerate Action Plan for the Bucharest Demo focuses on sustainable urban transformation in District 2, integrating energy efficiency, community engagement, and digital innovation to create a blueprint for sustainable urban development.
The project in Bucharest will implement actions aligned with WeGenerate’s core objectives, which include:
- Deep Retrofit & Smart Buildings: Co-developing an energy-smart retrofit for the student canteen, engaging students in the design process, collecting baseline data, and ensuring high-performance energy standards.
- Sustainable Public Space Regeneration: Enhancing public spaces within and beyond the university campus through co-design with students, residents, and schoolchildren, integrating nature-based solutions and smart urban design.
- Shared Energy Platform: Establishing a Shared Energy Centre to enable energy sharing between the campus canteen, student dormitory and the nearby school, reducing reliance on external grids through renewable sources and storage solutions.
- Digital Twin & Smart Energy Planning: Developing and testing a Digital Twin for real-time GHG reduction analysis, energy simulations, and urban environment modelling, incorporating sensor networks and 3D modelling.
- Sustainable Mobility: Expanding pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, bike lanes, and EV charging stations to reduce congestion and pollution.
- Community Engagement: Organising workshops, awareness campaigns, and educational initiatives to promote sustainability and urban participation.
This aims to transform the Bucharest District 2 Demo into a climate-resilient and innovative urban hub, using co-creation, digital tools, and energy-sharing systems to foster a sustainable and inclusive future.
