Over the past months, the Cascais Local Circle has been actively engaged in finalising a detailed report that maps out the strategic plan and roadmap for implementing key actions within the WeGenerate project.
The WeGenerate Action Plan for the Cascais Demo focuses on tackling energy poverty and improving social housing comfort in Alcabideche Neighbourhood through a Renewable Energy Community (REC) and digital innovation.
The project in Cascais will implement actions aligned with WeGenerate’s core objectives, which include:
- Energy Poverty & Housing Assessment: Evaluating energy poverty levels, built environment quality, and indoor comfort conditions to inform future interventions.
- Renewable Energy & Smart Management: Establishing an active citizen energy community with a smart energy metering and management platform, allowing energy sharing between ‘prosumers’ in an urban energy lab.
- Digital Twin Technology: Developing and testing Digital Twin tools to assess the potential of creating citizen energy communities.
- Community Engagement & Awareness: Launching campaigns to educate residents on the multi-benefits of sustainable, inclusive, and accessible neighbourhoods.
- Scaling Up & Replication: Extending the regeneration model to all social neighbourhoods in Cascais and collaborating with 17 municipalities in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area for wider adoption.
This initiative strengthens public-private partnerships, advances local renewable energy, and supports climate action, positioning Cascais as a model for scalable and inclusive urban transformation.
