WeGenerate Consortium Meets in Barcelona to Advance Collaboration and Urban Regeneration Solutions

On 3–4 December 2025, the WeGenerate Consortium gathered in Barcelona (Spain) for its 5th Consortium Meeting—two highly productive days marked by knowledge exchange, strategic alignment, and collaborative progress.

The meeting opened with welcome remarks from Jaume Salom, Head of the Climate Neutral and Resilient Buildings and Communities Research Group at IREC, and Vicky Albert-Seifried of Fraunhofer ISE, the project coordinator.

Following the introductions, the Demo Cities presented updates on local activities, highlighting recent achievements, ongoing challenges, and upcoming priorities. These inputs set the tone for an open and constructive discussion involving the Innovation Hub Clusters, Demo Cities, and the Advisory Board. Participants explored synergies, shared insights, and consolidated lessons learned to further strengthen cooperation as the project moves forward. An update was also provided on the post-intervention impact assessment and on the WeGenerate Data Collection Package.

The afternoon featured two workshops. The first advanced the development of the Urban WeGeneration Guidance Package, ensuring alignment with EU-level initiatives and supporting broad dissemination. The second focused on the project’s exploitation strategy, with partners collaborating on the foundations of a Key Exploitable Results repository, which will serve as the basis for a subsequent market analysis.

Day two opened with a welcome and presentation by Sigrid Ehrmann from EIT Urban Mobility, who introduced the organisation’s background, ongoing strategy, and future vision. This was followed by a communications update from the project team and an informative session on the WeGenerate participation on the upcoming ZCBE2026 Conference in Lisbon.
Later in the morning, a hybrid session brought together representatives from projects REGEN EU, GINNGER, Commit2Green, and REALLOCATE. This exchange showcased complementary approaches to urban regeneration, underscoring the value of collaboration and shared expertise across EU-funded initiatives.

In the afternoon, participants joined a Barcelona Case Study Tour led by Jordi Marfà, Chief Architect at Barcelona City Council. The tour explored recent urban regeneration projects, including Glòries Square, the new tram line, and the redesigned Girona and Consell de Cent streets, all examples of inclusive and sustainable public space transformation.

The meeting concluded on a highly positive note, with active engagement, meaningful exchanges, and clear progress across multiple work streams, laying a solid foundation for the remaining two years of our project.
