Tiny Artists Bring Night Bugs to Light at Tampere’s Festival of Light

The magic of night comes alive this autumn as artworks from the Night Bugs children’s drawing competition are unveiled at Tampere’s Festival of Light on Friday, October 24th.

Organised by the WeGenerate project and Children’s Cultural Centre Rulla, the competition invited children aged 3 to 11 to imagine the mysterious insects that might flutter through gardens after dark.

The winning artworks now shine as part of a unique lighting installation at the Laikku Stage area, designed to enhance comfort, walkability, and accessibility. The installation was implemented by the City of Tampere, with design collaboration from WhiteNight Lighting Oy, and will remain on display until February 22nd, 2026.

In celebration of all participants, every submitted drawing will be displayed in the Children’s Gallery Exhibition at Cultural House Laikku’s Corridor Gallery from October 24th to November 23rd, 2025. The exhibition showcases the imagination of young artists and brings children’s creativity into the heart of the city.

The initiative also marks Rulla’s 20th anniversary, celebrating two decades of inspiring cultural experiences for children in Tampere.
